Sarah

I am lucky enough to be happily married to my soul mate and fortunate enough to be a stay at home mom to 2 wonderful, beautiful and fun filled children.  I love clean eating and all the benefits that come with it.   My whole family practices a clean eating lifestyle and along the way I’ve learned so much (and I’m still learning!).  In 2012 I will receive my degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Northern Illinois University.

       Kristy

As a runner I have been eating healthy for many years but as I’ve learned more about nutrition I have adapted my eating to be completely “clean”.  I am a self professed foodie and love to read cookbooks just for pleasure.

  6. What a great website. I am a holistic nutritionist in Vancouver,BC Canada and I am always looking for different resources that I can let my clients know about. This will definitely be one. I believe that clean eating, eating whole real food, is what is needed in our society plagued with obesity and disease.

    thank you…great work!

    • Sarah says:

      Hi Corinne,

I couldn’t agree more! Eating clean, natural, whole foods is the key to healing and nourishing our bodies. In today’s society we want everything to be ‘fast’ and easy and our bodies are paying that price!

We’re glad to hear you are enjoying our site. We love hearing from our readers!

Hi there, I stumbled upon your site whilst looking for simple receipes & advice on clean eating, I’m in the UK & despite talking the decision to quit smoking, drinking alcohol, stop eating as much junk food & trust me I eat a lot & working in the IT industry for 23 years wasn’t the most active either which lead me to weighing in at over 17 stone as of 4th May 2008 which became D-Day to turn around and change.

Despite loosing over 7 stone, successfully quitting smoking, still off alcohol and being probably more active than I have ever been going from struggling to run my first kilometer in 2008 to having a maximum continuous running distance over a little over 100 miles I often still struggle with food choices that never make up a diet and try to concentrate more on a healthy lifestyle.

One thing I most certainly no longer lack is motivation, determination & persistance to the point that last year I quit my full time career within the IT industry to re-train as a gym & fitness instructor, Personal Trainer, Studio Cycling Instructor & various other health & fitness qualifications.

Unfortunately I’m ashamed to admit most of my meals used to come from packets, tins, frozen ready meals etc as I’ve never been kitchen friendly in anyway, these days although hardly a master chef I can manage enough not to starve & the rest of my household don’t seem to mind eating my creations again which I’ll admit don’t always turn out as they should until usually third or fourth time.

I’ve had a look around and one of the most usuful things I’ve found so far is your ingredients list which makes an excellent starting point for me, I have a couple of friends who successfully manage clean eating however tend to make it more complicated than I think or feel it should be & with being so far from a cunlenery expert most of their advice goes over my head.

The recipes I’ve looked as so far on your site seem simple to prepare & follow that I think even I can manage then so I’m looking forward to trying them out in an attempt to steer clear of diets & continue with a simple healthy lifestyle.

I really loved a the Kuri Squash Soup recipe. I wish the website had a search function by ingredient for recipes.

    • Kristy says:

We don’t have a specific search function by ingredient but if you type an ingredient in the recipe search box, like “squash” the search will bring up recipes that include “squash”. You may get a few results that don’t actually include the ingredient if the word you searched was used somewhere in the text but it should work ok. Hope that helps. Kristy

Thank you for this wonderful, user-friendly site! I have a beautiful wonderful 1.5 year old girl and while we make pretty good choicxes to instill good eating habits, we still have steps to take to become cleaner. I appreciate the time you put into this for all to see!

    • Sarah says:

      Hi Kristel,

Thanks for writing in. We love getting feedback and appreciate your comments! Making good food choices while your children are young is the best way to set them up for a healthy life later on! So glad we can help!

  15. Teri says:

First off, wonderful site and all the recipes look so yummy :).

I was wondering if either of you had any exercise advice, such as how much cardio vs resistance training?

    Thanks!

    • Sarah says:

      Hi Teri,

My advise for exercise is to do what you enjoy most. I’m not a big fan of resistance training (although I know it has many benefits) and when I try to incorporate it into my fitness routine I usually end up making excuses and just never do it. I enjoy walking, running and cycling. Getting myself motivated each day to exercise is never a problem because I throughly enjoy doing those 3 things. I know there are a lot of home videos out there that offer resistance training so you can always give those a try and incorporate it into a fun cardio routine.

I just found your blog last week and I am LOVING it! I have been vegan for two years and my biggest challenge is finding things that I can send for my 1st grade daughter’s lunch. It would be great to see a post on ideas for that…she’s a bit picky, but she’s getting tired of peanut butter! I will continue to enjoy reading through your blog. :)

    • Sarah says:

      Hi Tiffany,

Even though I homeschool both of my kids on Wednesdays they attend a ‘workshop’ with other homeschoolers and they eat lunch while they are there. Packing a lunch for them has definitely been met with some challenges. I only have the option of peanut butter with my daughter as my son is not a fan of it which makes coming up with options even more difficult. Needless to say I feel your pain. I will definitely work on some kid friendly lunch themed recipes to post in the next few weeks. Hopefully this will help with the lunch situation a bit!

I love your website - but I did find some conflicting information that I want to ask about. In one article, you say to replace artificial sweeteners with agave nectar or honey; but in another article, you say that agave nectar is “chemically processed” and should be eliminated. Which is correct?? I always thought agave nectar was great for clean eating!

If anyone happens to live in West Sacramento, Ca I would love some help. I have been into eating healthy my whole life but have been having a hard time figuring out how. My family and I are on a $620 monthly food budget and creating meal plans that fit in that budget seems to be impossible. We are a family of 5. My husband, myself, 2 toddlers and a newborn (Breastfed). It would be great to find someone to go grocery shopping with and to help me create some meal plan ideas. Thanks! [email protected]

They sound good enough for me to eat, LOL! Thanks for providing such a great list of clean eating recipes! You gals ROCK!
